Monotypes are 'one-off' prints. This workshop is an introduction to printing without a press. Those who already have had a taster of monotypes can spend the day experimenting and refining the process under the guidance of the tutor. Monotype stands between drawing, painting and printmaking giving it a unique, spontaneous quality. The workshop will offer an opportunity to 'free up' experiment and explore – expect the unexpected!
The morning of the workshop will focus on developing monochrome mark-making and in the afternoon using colour and layers. Bring a selection of your drawings as starting points. The tutor will guide and support your work throughout the day, if the weather is fine you can draw outside or work inside from still life (provided). Please bring an overall.
The workshop will make reference to and draw inspiration from historical and contemporary artists.
Bring a selection of your drawings as starting points and overalls or clothes you don't mind getting mucky.
